My Word Journey So Far...
I love taking word journeys — wending
my way through uncertain territory, taking a path I hadn’t previously
considered, then coming upon what I know to be my destination. While words can
be stumbling blocks to many, as they agonize over putting them together in some
order to first make a sentence, then a paragraph, words have always been my
friend.
Having “a way with words” has served me well over the years. I found self-expression through poetry and songs when I was younger, and later found a satisfying source of earning my “bread and butter” as a self-employed writer, editor, photographer, and graphic designer.
Publications became my niche, as I produced
newsletters, magazines, brochures, and materials for fundraising and marketing
campaigns, from creative concept to finished product.
Throughout my career, I’ve told stories from many perspectives and for diverse objectives. Those that have been especially gratifying have been word journeys involving:
• patient success stories of survival against the odds;
• stories of advances in medical technology;
• profiles of people from all walks of life; and
• tales of
travels to faraway places.
A real-life journey in 2006 brought me to northern Texas from southern Indiana, where I’ve followed exciting new paths, transporting me into uncharted territory, personally and professionally.
Since moving to Texas, my
storytelling abilities have been drawn toward the world of books — editing the
words of others, in some cases, and being an author’s writing partner, telling his
story as told to me, in another. I’ve found that the desire to tell one’s story
is not at all uncommon, but the ability of the storyteller to bring his or her
story or experience to life through the written word is not always equal to the
desire. That’s where I come in...
I am ready to not only help you with spelling, grammar, and punctuation, but work with you to improve concept, transition, and flow. Or, I can take your ideas and begin the creative process from the first word to the last.
(Travel, scuba diving, and photography are among my interests outside the world of words. If you are interested in seeing more of my photography, visit my website, www.photojourneys.biz.)
